AIMPLAS develops R&D projects at a national level with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of companies belonging to the plastics sector and to similar sectors. The AIMPLAS National Projects Department is responsible for the management of the national projects carried out by the Institute. It manages not only projects included in the Programmes of the National R&D Plan, but also different calls at both national and regional level carried out by the Institute, as well as every project under contract with companies and institutions. One of its main goals is to encourage the participation of companies in these types of programmes. It helps with for the formation of national consortiums, aiding companies at every step concerning the presentation of projects for  different programmes and calls at national level. The number of national projects carried out by AIMPLAS has notably increased over the past years. In 2010, more than 90 projects were managed within the following programmes:

• Technological Development (IMPIVA).
• PCEV (IMPIVA).
• Innovation Bouchers (IMPIVA).
• Special Importance for Industry Diversification (Regional Ministry of Industry, Trade and Innovation).
• INNOEMPRESA Regional and Transregional.
• Research Centers Plan (IMPIVA)
• APPLIED RESEARCH. Making up consortiums or in cooperation (MICINN).
• CENIT (MICINN).
• PETRI (MEC).
• National Cooperation. Research and Development (CDTI).
• Private with companies.
• Other national calls.
